Normally when I finish a book, my iPad takes me directly to the review screen and I just type out a review right then and there. I didn't do that with this story. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, and I wanted to be fair to the author. It wasn't what I was expecting. Though the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to read MORE about this story. I don't want to give any spoilers away, so I will keep this as vague as possible. For example, I wanted to know more about Ms. Wickman. I wanted to know more about the Apprentices. What happened next? 'Queen of Blood' will be next up on my list of books to read, in the hopes that it answers some of my questions. :)So, four stars for this story, because in my opinion, it lays a fantastic foundation of where this story could ultimately go.

Another great read from Smith, while fast pace and full of action, not really that scary compared to some of his other work. Main villain was perceived to be evil although he seemed week and flawed to me. Still worth the money. Next up the sequel.
Loved it! Just rolls right along from page 1. Perhaps lags a bit towards the last quarter but still a very entertaining read.
My favourite Smith book is still 'The Late Night Horror Show', but this one copies a similar format.

This isn't your typical story of a group of friends that get stuck in a horror 'fun house' of evil amusement. There are greater more deeply involved themes of human emotions and horror and the supernatural herein. The author wove his emotional elements together very well and won me over to a different type of story.
Love this book. Read it years ago and loved it then, shared it around work, then lost track of it. I had the author's website saved to a work computer and actually blogged with the author about book, someone deleted it ( So for years I would think about the book and Google what I could recall to no avail. Well a couple of weeks ago I thought let me try again and here it is. I am a huge Fan of Bryan Smith and can not wait to read the sequel to this Queen of blood )
I am a BIG fan of Brian Smith. This story, as most (if not all) of Brian Smith's writing, is dark, disturbing, violent, bloody and most important-- entertaining. I highly recommend this if you are a horror or Richard Laymon fan. If enjoy House of Blood, then check out the sequel, Queen of Blood!!!!
Not much else to say. I do not like writing reviews, mainly because there are so many talented reviewers out there and I feel that usually there's not much else to add. But I really like this author's works and I want to support him!
Another winner by the author of "The Freakshow" - Bryan Smith. After reading the "The Freakshow" I went ahead and purchased most of his other books for my . I just finished reading House of Blood and it did not disappoint. I literally have to pace myself, so that I don't read the book in one sitting, but can savor it. I'll be reading the follow-up "Queen of Blood" which I am looking forward to. I'm definitely a new Bryan Smith fan and will look forward to each book he writes in future. Thanks to for adding this writer to their roster of books available.
I am a fan of Bryan's and have been for a while now. I grabbed this and Queen Of Blood hoping that they were both worth the purchase. I have to say that I was a little disappointed by this one.
As others have said, the story does jump around a lot and to me, it's extremely slow. I normally read 3-4 books a week and this one took me almost two. I could of stopped at anytime as I did not care about the characters. I plan of reading Queen someday and hope it's a little better.
I also want to add a few comments about the editing. This being the Author's Preferred Edition, I think he should of taken a little more time with editing. There are missing/incomplete words, a lot of words spelled incorrectly, and hyphens where they just aren't necessary.
